Why does the first order cost more per unit?

The cutting die and printing plates are paid once at launch, and on a short run that cost spreads over few pieces. The same design reordered later drops the tooling line entirely. Raising the print run also lowers the unit price, so ask for a price ladder at several quantities.

Is Turkish packaging suitable for food contact?

Yes, when the supplier provides a food-grade declaration of conformity and a migration test report for the exact material and ink used. Request both documents with the quote, keep them with the shipping file, and check that any local registration your market requires is in place.

Send artwork in a printable format

Printers need vector artwork (PDF, AI or EPS) with fonts converted to outlines, colours set in CMYK or named Pantone references, and a 3 mm bleed. Ask the supplier for the dieline of your box size and lay the design on it. A clean file on day one removes a week of proofing.

Board grade decides how the box survives

Give the supplier the product weight, the stacking height in your warehouse and the humidity there, then ask which flute and grammage they recommend. C flute covers most shipping cases, E flute suits small retail boxes, BC double wall handles heavy loads. Compare offers on ECT or burst value alongside price per thousand.

Tooling on the first order, savings on the second

Expect a one-off charge for the cutting die and the printing plates or cylinders when your design goes into production. Ask for it as a separate line in the quote, and ask what the unit price becomes on a repeat run with the same artwork. Rotogravure carries higher tooling and higher minimum quantities than flexography.

Food contact and barrier

If the pack will hold food, ask for the food-grade declaration of conformity and the migration test report before you order, and check that the ink and lacquer on the printed side are approved for that use. For moisture-sensitive products, a laminated film or a coated board keeps the pack intact through a humid port.

Order size and container fill

Packaging fills a container on volume well before the weight limit, so ask how many pallets fit a 20' or a 40' HC and size the order to a full load. Cartons ship flat and knocked down. A full container of one item usually beats several part loads on landed cost per thousand pieces.
