What is an EN 10204 3.1 certificate and why does it matter?

It is the producing mill's own inspection certificate for the material, signed by the maker and tied to a heat number printed on the bundle or coil tag. Match the two on arrival. Banks financing the shipment and most public tenders ask for it, so request it together with the offer.

Can I order less than a full container of metal?

Yes, when the supplier consolidates. Metal fills a container by weight long before volume, so a 20 ft box takes a mixed load of sheet, profile and wire from one plant. Ask what other items ship on the same booking and how the packing and marking are arranged.

Which aluminium alloy do I need?

Match the alloy to the use: 6063 for extruded window and door profiles, 1050 or 1100 for general flat sheet, with the temper stated. Add the wall thickness, length and finish (mill, anodised or powder coated). For a custom section, send the drawing so the supplier can price the die.

Importing metal from Türkiye: what to check before you order

Write a spec the mill can price

A Turkish mill prices a line only when the specification is complete. Give the product form (sheet, coil, profile, wire, billet), the grade, the thickness or diameter with the tolerance you accept, width and length, the surface condition (oiled, pickled, galvanised) and the tonnage. An incomplete enquiry comes back as questions and costs you a week.

Galvanised and pre-painted coil

On galvanised material the zinc coating weight drives how long a roof lasts, more than the sheet thickness does. DX51D is the common forming grade; the coating is stated in g/m² across both faces, and a light coating on a coastal site corrodes early. Pre-painted coil adds a paint system and a colour reference, so name both in the order.

Aluminium and copper

Aluminium and copper follow their own logic. Extruded profile is ordered by alloy and temper (6063 for window and door sections) with the die, wall thickness and finish named: mill, anodised or powder coated. Flat products run 1050 or 1100 for general sheet. Enamelled copper winding wire is bought by diameter and thermal class, with the conductivity spec written into the order.

Check what arrives against the paperwork

The bundle or coil tag carries a heat number, and that number has to appear on the EN 10204 3.1 certificate. If the two do not match, you are holding material the mill has not certified. On a first order, a third-party inspection at the plant covering thickness, coating weight and marking is worth the fee before the container is sealed.

Price, quantity and payment

Ask for the price per tonne with the freight basis, the tonnage it covers and the date it expires, because mills reprice as scrap and billet references move. A small first order works when the supplier consolidates several items into one container loaded to weight. A confirmed letter of credit gives the mill enough comfort to book a rolling slot for you.
