Many export lines carry CE marking under MDR 2017/745 and come out of ISO 13485 certified plants. Ask in writing for the certificate number, the notified body and the device class, since a marking covers a defined product range. Do I need NAFDAC or FDA registration before the goods arrive?

Yes in Nigeria and Ghana, and the number is issued in the importer's name before shipment. The file usually holds the manufacturer's CE and ISO 13485 certificates, product samples and a legalised free sale certificate. Kenya works through the Pharmacy and Poisons Board, Algeria through ministry authorisation.

What support comes with hospital equipment?

Importing medical supplies from Türkiye: a buyer's guide

Check the certificate before the price

Ask for the CE certificate number and the notified body that issued it, then confirm the device class matches the product you are buying. Request the ISO 13485 certificate issued to the manufacturing plant, and look at the validity date on both documents. A supplier who sends these scans in the first exchange is usually the one able to support your registration file later.

Registration in your market

Plan the registration before the purchase order. NAFDAC in Nigeria, the FDA in Ghana, the Pharmacy and Poisons Board in Kenya and the health ministry in Algeria register the product in the local importer's name, and the file needs the free sale certificate legalised at the Turkish chamber of commerce and at your consulate. Build that lead time into your stock planning.

Consumables: what to write into the order

For gloves, syringes, infusion sets, gauze and medical textiles, put the sterilisation method, lot traceability and the minimum shelf life on arrival into the contract itself. Ask for a sample carton before the container and check that the outer packaging survives humid port storage. Reorder cycles are short, so fix the repeat price and a call-off schedule up front.

Devices, spare parts and training

For imaging, dental units, laboratory analysers and hospital beds, confirm the 220V/50Hz configuration and the plug type, then ask what the machine costs to run: reagents, electrodes, printer paper, filters. Agree warranty length, spare-parts lead time, installation and operator training in writing, and ask for service manuals in English or French depending on your country.
