You can buy tractors and agricultural equipment from Turkey directly from Turkish manufacturers: tractors, power tillers, ploughs, disc harrows, rotary tillers, planters and seed drills, sprayers, multi-crop threshers, mowers, balers, forage harvesters and trailers. This guide is for farmers, cooperatives, contractors and machinery dealers in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and the rest of Africa: which tractor and implements fit which farm, what to ask about spare parts and service, what drives the price and how to import.
Short answer
Start your request from the farm, not from a brand: farm size, crops, soil (light, heavy, stony) and the work you need done (ploughing, harrowing, planting, spraying, threshing, haulage). Give the tractor power you have or want in hp, 2WD or 4WD, and list the implements as a set. A Turkish supplier can then match tractor power and implement widths and price the whole package together.
Why buy farm equipment from Turkey?
Turkey has a large tractor and farm machinery industry. Turkish tractor brands include Tümosan, Başak, Hattat and Erkunt, and TürkTraktör builds New Holland and Case IH tractors in Turkey. The country also has a large implement industry, with a well-known cluster in Konya, building ploughs, harrows, seeders, sprayers, threshers, balers and trailers for farms similar in size to many African farms. Against Chinese and Indian equipment, Turkey's case is sturdier implements and mid-range tractors; against European or American dealers, lower prices. Compare the complete offer delivered to your port, including spare parts and after-sales support.
Which tractor and implements for which farm?
| Farm or job | Usual choice | Tell the supplier |
|---|---|---|
| Smallholding, garden farming, rice paddies | Power tiller (walking tractor) with rotary tiller, small trailer | Plot size, crop, soil |
| Mixed farm up to about 50 ha | 50-75 hp tractor, 2WD or 4WD, mouldboard or disc plough, disc harrow, trailer | Crops, soil, implements you already have |
| Commercial farm, contractor | 90-140 hp 4WD tractor, heavy disc harrow, subsoiler, precision planter, boom sprayer | Hectares per season, row spacing, crops |
| Maize, sorghum, millet, beans, groundnut | Row planter or seed drill, multi-crop thresher or sheller | Crops, row spacing, output per hour |
| Livestock and forage | Mower, rake or tedder, round or square baler, forage harvester, silage chopper | Forage type, bale size, herd size |
| Orchards and plantations | Narrow tractor, air-blast or hybrid sprayer, mulcher | Row width, tree height |
Recent requests on Tafric show this mix: 120 hp tractors with ploughs, harrows and trailers in DR Congo and Senegal, tractors with disc harrows and 8-row disc planters in Congo-Brazzaville, power tillers in Côte d'Ivoire, Cameroon and Togo, multi-crop threshers for groundnut, maize and millet, maize and potato planters and potato lifters in Kenya and Zimbabwe, round balers and fertiliser spreaders, forage harvesters and silage choppers, and complete equipment for a 65,000-acre farm in Ghana.
Tractor power, engine and spare parts
Match power to soil and implement: heavy clay and disc harrowing need more hp per metre of working width than light sandy soil. Ask for the rated engine power, the engine make and where its parts are sold in your country, the PTO speeds and hydraulic capacity for your implements, a cabin or canopy against the heat, and tyre size. Spare parts decide whether a tractor keeps working: ask the supplier for a parts list with prices, a first-year spare parts kit (filters, belts, clutch parts, seals), the operator and service manuals in English or French, and whether a local dealer or mechanic can be trained. For implements, ask for wear parts such as discs, tines, shares and thresher sieves.
New or used tractors?
Some buyers ask for used tractors. Turkish manufacturers sell mainly new equipment, and a new mid-range tractor with a warranty and a parts kit often works out better than an old one with no parts support. If you do consider used machinery, check first whether your country limits the age of imported used equipment and what inspection it requires.
What drives the price
There is no list price. The price depends on tractor power, 2WD or 4WD, cabin, engine and transmission, and for implements on working width, weight and steel quality, number of discs or rows and hydraulic or mechanical operation. A package price for a tractor with matched implements is usually better value than buying each piece separately. Ask each supplier for a line-by-line price on the same basis, CFR or CIF your port, with spare parts and delivery time.
How to import tractors and farm equipment from Turkey
1) Define the farm, crops, soil and the jobs to mechanise. 2) Post a free request on Tafric with tractor power, implements and quantities. 3) Compare offers line by line, including parts kit, manuals and warranty. 4) Ask for videos or a video call showing the machines in operation, and for a pre-shipment inspection at the factory. 5) Agree payment, Incoterm and delivery time in a pro forma invoice. 6) Ship with your forwarder and plan assembly and operator training on arrival.
Shipping and customs
Sea freight from Türkiye to West Africa usually takes about 2 to 4 weeks port to port, depending on the service and transhipment (direct sailings are at the short end); East and Southern Africa take longer via Suez. Ask your forwarder for the current schedule. A tractor with implements usually ships in a 40 ft container or flat rack, larger machines by ro-ro. Several African countries reduce duty or VAT on agricultural machinery, and pre-shipment documents differ by country (for example Form M in Nigeria): confirm the rules with your clearing agent before you pay.
How Tafric works for buyers
Posting a request is free. Tafric checks it before publication, then Turkish manufacturers of tractors and farm equipment see it and contact you directly. You compare, ask your questions and agree terms with the supplier you choose. Post your request, browse agricultural machinery from Turkish suppliers or read our solar panels, inverters and batteries guide for solar irrigation pumps and farm power.
Frequently asked questions
Can I buy tractors from Turkey?
Yes. Turkish brands such as Tümosan, Başak, Hattat and Erkunt build tractors in Turkey, and TürkTraktör builds New Holland and Case IH models there. Turkish manufacturers also export ploughs, harrows, planters, sprayers, threshers and balers. On Tafric you post a free request and suppliers contact you.
What are the Turkish tractor brands?
Tractors built in Turkey include Tümosan, Başak, Hattat and Erkunt, as well as New Holland and Case IH models made by TürkTraktör. Ask each supplier for the engine make and spare parts availability in your country.
What size tractor do I need for my farm?
Roughly: a power tiller for small plots, 50-75 hp for mixed farms up to about 50 hectares, and 90-140 hp 4WD for commercial farms, heavy soils and wide implements. Tell the supplier your farm size, soil and implements so they can match the power.
What is a multi-crop thresher?
A thresher that separates grain from the plant for several crops, such as maize, sorghum, millet, beans and rice, by changing sieves and speed settings. Tell the supplier your crops and the output per hour you need.
How much does a tractor from Turkey cost in Nigeria?
It depends on power, 2WD or 4WD, cabin, engine and the implements included. Ask suppliers for a line-by-line price delivered to your port (CFR or CIF), with spare parts and delivery time, so you can compare. For Nigeria add duty, VAT and clearing (Form M) to the CFR price.
How long does shipping from Turkey take?
Usually about 2 to 4 weeks port to port to West Africa, depending on the service and transhipment; longer to East and Southern Africa. Ask your forwarder for the current schedule.
