Medical & healthcare buying requests from Africa: consumables, devices, hospital equipment
Hospitals, distributors and pharmacy groups across Africa open requests for Turkish medical goods: single-use consumables (gloves, syringes, infusion sets), diagnostic and imaging devices, hospital furniture, surgical instruments, dental and laboratory equipment, orthopaedics and medical textiles. This page collects verified buying requests and shows Turkish exporters what the offer must carry: CE marking under MDR 2017/745, ISO 13485, a free sale certificate and CFR delivery.
Exporting medical products to Africa: what buyers expect
CE marking and ISO 13485
Most African tenders and distributors ask for the CE certificate under MDR 2017/745, with the notified body number and the device class stated on it. Behind the certificate they expect an ISO 13485 quality system at the manufacturing site. Attach the certificate scan, the declaration of conformity and a technical file summary to your first offer, so the buyer can forward it to their regulator without a second round of e-mails.
Free sale certificate and market registration
A free sale certificate issued in Türkiye, legalised by the chamber of commerce and by the destination consulate, is a standing request. On top of it each market runs its own registration: NAFDAC in Nigeria, the FDA in Ghana, the Pharmacy and Poisons Board in Kenya, ministry authorisation in Algeria. The importer normally holds the file, so issue the documents in their company name from the start.
Sterile consumables: lot, expiry, packaging
Consumables move the largest volumes: gloves, syringes, infusion sets, gauze, drapes and medical textiles. Buyers check the sterilisation method (ethylene oxide or gamma), the lot number and the expiry date printed on each unit and on the outer carton. State how much shelf life will remain when the container reaches the destination port, because several markets refuse stock that arrives close to expiry.
Hospital tenders and device offers
Hospital equipment and imaging devices are mostly bought through public tenders. The bid file asks for a line-by-line technical compliance sheet, warranty length, spare-parts availability, installation and operator training. Quote the 220V/50Hz configuration, list the consumables the device needs over a year, and say whether service runs through a local partner. One unanswered specification line can disqualify a competitive price.
Payment and delivery
Medical shipments are quoted in USD, CFR to Apapa, Tema, Mombasa or Algiers, with FOB Istanbul offered when the buyer books freight. Payment is commonly an L/C at sight or an advance share released against documents. Give the HS code, carton dimensions and gross weight in the offer, and keep an air-freight option open for urgent consumable top-ups between sea shipments.
Frequently asked questions
In practice yes for most tenders and distributors: the CE certificate under MDR 2017/745 is the document the buyer forwards to their regulator. Add the ISO 13485 certificate of the manufacturing site and the declaration of conformity. Some markets accept an FDA or WHO prequalification file for the same purpose.
