'Turkish furniture in Nigeria', 'Turkish sofa price' and 'how to import furniture from Turkey' are common Google searches across Africa. This guide is for families furnishing a home and for shops and showrooms that want to buy directly from Turkish furniture manufacturers.
Short answer
Turkish furniture is made mainly in İnegöl (Bursa), Kayseri, the Siteler district of Ankara and Istanbul (Masko, Modoko), and sells under its own name in African markets. Describe what you want by seats and pieces, compare suppliers on price per set with dimensions and volume, ship one house LCL or a shop's order in a mixed container, and check your country's import rules before paying. Nigeria has kept most furniture on its import prohibition list for years.
Turkey, China or a local workshop?
Buyers weigh three options. Chinese factories are often the cheapest and have huge catalogues, but transit is longer; local workshops are close and flexible but limited in fabrics and finishing; Turkish manufacturers sit in between, with a reputation for design and upholstery, a shorter sea route to West Africa and factories used to export packing. In Lagos and Abuja shops advertise 'Turkish sofas', and Dakar listings say 'chambre à coucher turque', so the Turkish label also helps resale in showrooms.
Popular sets: 7-seaters, L-shapes, Royal and modern
Sofa sets are ordered by seats. A '7-seater' is usually 3+2+1+1, '3+2+1' is six seats, and an L-shape suits larger living rooms; 'leather 7 seater sofa set price in Nigeria' is a common search. In Nigeria Turkish sofas are also called 'Turkey chairs', and carved classic sets 'Royal' sets, which sit at the top end with matching dining tables; modern fabric sets suit apartments. In Dakar listings, bedrooms are sold as 5- or 6-piece sets (bed, two bedside tables, wardrobe, dresser with mirror); dining sets for 6, 8 or 10 often add a buffet or console with mirror.
| What you say | What the factory needs |
|---|---|
| 7-seater | Layout (usually 3+2+1+1) and maximum length per piece |
| L-shape for 6 | Left or right corner, length of each side |
| Bedroom set | Number of pieces, mattress size in cm |
| Dining for 8 | Table size, top material (wood, glass, marble) |
| Royal / classic | Photo of the style, carving and gilding level |
What drives the price
Price depends on the frame (solid wood, MDF, metal), the upholstery (leather, leatherette, fabric), carving and gilding, and the number of pieces. Ask every supplier for the same breakdown: price per set, dimensions, materials, cubic metres per set and the price to your port (CFR) or door. Leather and fabric are both widely requested; for a family home choose easy-clean covers and ask for a swatch before production.
Example carton size; the fill rate allows for stacking loss. Enter your own carton size.
How to import furniture from Turkey, step by step
1) Check that furniture can be imported into your country (see below). 2) Post a request with rooms, pieces, sizes, materials and a photo of the style. 3) Compare suppliers on the same breakdown and ask for videos of the actual pieces. 4) Agree the payment terms and packing method in writing, including what happens if a piece arrives damaged. 5) For one house, ship LCL or through a forwarder who groups orders to your port; for a shop, a full mixed container. 6) Your clearing agent clears the goods with the invoice, packing list, certificate of origin and any documents your country requires.
Shipping, customs and country rules
Count the sea leg on top of production: roughly 9-14 days to Dakar or Abidjan and 16-20 to Lagos. Inland buyers (Zimbabwe, Kinshasa, Zambia) receive through a seaport plus a road leg, so ask the forwarder which port and who handles the inland part; see our container freight guide. Wooden crates and pallets should carry the ISPM 15 mark.
Nigeria has kept most furniture (HS headings 9401 and 9403, with exceptions for certain parts and specialised items) on its customs import prohibition list for years. Rules and enforcement change, so confirm the current list and how your agent will clear the goods before you pay anything. Senegal and Côte d'Ivoire usually require a cargo tracking note (BSC), and DR Congo an import information form (FERI). For Ghana and Kenya, see our step-by-step guides for Ghana and Kenya.

Frequently asked questions
Can I import furniture from Turkey to Nigeria?
Furniture has long been on Nigeria's customs import prohibition list, with exceptions for certain parts and specialised items. Rules and enforcement change, so check the current list with the Nigeria Customs Service and a licensed clearing agent before you order or pay.
How much does a Turkish sofa set cost?
It depends on the frame, upholstery, carving and number of pieces: a modern fabric 3+2+1 and a carved Royal 7-seater with dining set are very different budgets. Post your request with the exact layout and materials, and compare suppliers' prices per set delivered to your port.
Where to buy furniture in Turkey?
The main centres are İnegöl (Bursa), Kayseri, the Siteler district of Ankara and Masko and Modoko in Istanbul. You can visit, or post a free request on Tafric and let manufacturers from these centres contact you.
Can I buy furniture for just one house from Turkey?
Yes. Ask for one package price for all rooms and ship it LCL or through a forwarder that groups orders to your port.
What does a 7-seater sofa set mean?
Usually a three-seater, a two-seater and two single armchairs (3+2+1+1). Some sellers mean an L-shaped sofa plus armchairs, so confirm the layout in writing.
