Metal, iron & steel buying requests from Africa: sheet, coil, profile & wire
African importers buy semi-finished metal by the tonne: hot and cold rolled sheet, galvanised coil, steel and aluminium profiles, copper wire, billets and casting products. This page collects verified buying requests and shows Turkish exporters what the offer has to carry: grade, thickness and tolerance, coil weight, mill certificate and FOB or CFR terms.
Quoting metal and steel requests from Africa
Fix the grade first
A metal request stays unanswerable until the grade is fixed. Structural sheet and profile run to EN 10025 (S235JR, S275JR, S355JR), cold rolled DKP to DC01, galvanised to DX51D with a stated zinc coating in g/m², stainless to 304 or 316. Aluminium moves by alloy and temper (1050 sheet, 6063 extrusion). Ask the buyer which one, then quote.
Dimensions, tolerance, coil geometry
After the grade comes geometry. Sheet sells by thickness, width and length with a tolerance class; coil adds strip width, coil weight and inner diameter (508 or 610 mm), which decides whether the buyer's decoiler can take the lot at all. Wire is quoted by diameter and drawing, enamelled copper by its thermal class. Confirm cut-to-length or mill edge before pricing.
Mill certificate and heat number
A buyer financing through a bank asks for the mill test certificate to EN 10204 3.1, issued by the producing mill and tied to the heat number printed on the bundle tag. Add the certificate of origin, and the pre-shipment inspection report where the destination runs a conformity programme. Sending the 3.1 with the offer removes the round of questions that usually follows.
Price validity and payment
Metal is quoted per tonne and moves with scrap, billet and LME references, so a price left open for weeks costs the exporter money. Give a short validity window and state what the figure depends on. Most first orders close against an L/C at sight or an advance with the balance settled on documents; confirm the buyer's bank before booking the mill slot.
Loading is planned around weight
Coils, billets and bundled profile reach the container payload limit long before they fill the volume, so a 20 ft box is normal and the mill loads to weight. Long profile and heavy plate often move break bulk from İskenderun or Mersin. Quote the packing (bundled, strapped, seaworthy) next to the price so the buyer can plan discharge.
Frequently asked questions
Name the grade the buyer's application needs: S235JR, S275JR or S355JR under EN 10025 for structural sheet and profile, DC01 for cold rolled, DX51D with a zinc coating figure for galvanised, 304 or 316 for stainless. Quote against that grade and attach the EN 10204 3.1 certificate.
